Offshore Fishing Charter
Andrew Mead has a reputation as one of the best fishing charter operators in the Townsville region. He is particularly well know for his barramundi fishing abilities, but also has great success catching spanish mackerel.
A favourite spot is not far off Cape Cleveland, in sight of Magnetic Island, and he says the best time of day to catch fish there is first thing in the morning. Andrew’s bait of choice for the spaniards is big wolf herring, and he trolls at an incredibly slow speed to keep the bait sitting pretty in the water.
He’s a fountain of information when it comes to how to catch them, but one tip he particularly emphasises is that as soon as you see any sort of bite you need to start winding to take up the slack, because often the fish will be swimming towards you and get loose if there’s no tension on the line.
